Sermon: Light Source; John 1:5-9

In today's sermon (click on title for audio), I discuss John chapter 1, verses 5 through 9 where the Gospel writer John writes to us about the Word that became light through life. It's a fascinating section because John, the writer, throws in his first discussion about John, the Baptist, into the mix. On cursory glance, that seems entirely irrelevant and non-germaine to the topic at hand, but careful examination reveals it to be quite relevant for us today as we are faced with having to choose from many lights that try to beckon to us each day. And this passage can also show us what part we have to play in the grand cosmic narrative between light and darkness.
